Different Days. Same Hope
Some mornings open like a window. The coffee is warm, the light lands kindly, and I can almost hear possibility moving around the room. Other mornings arrive with a bill, a hard memory, or news I did not ask for. On those days, even getting dressed can feel like carrying a whole house on my back.
I used to believe hope had to feel bright. If I could not summon a smile, I thought I had lost it. But hope has worn many faces in my life. Sometimes it is the courage to say, “This is hard.” Sometimes it is watering one plant, returning one call, or opening the curtains after a night that seemed to have no end. A small act can be a declaration: I am still here.
There are hurts we cannot decorate into lessons. We do not owe anyone a pretty story about what broke us. We can grieve what should have been, be angry about what was unfair, and still make room for a tomorrow we cannot quite picture. The truth is strong enough to hold all of that.
When a day feels too heavy, I try to stop asking myself to carry the whole future. I ask what this hour needs. A glass of water. A walk with Star and Diva. A hand to hold. A little color on a blank page. None of these erases sorrow. Each reminds my body that life is still reaching toward me.
If today came in swinging, dear soul, you do not have to dance gracefully through it. Stand still. Catch your breath. Let someone sit beside you. Tomorrow may ask for a different step. For now, the beat beneath your feet is enough. Different days, same stubborn hope: we are still here, and there is still beauty left to make.
